“Black pathology is big business. Two-thirds of teenage mothers are white, two-thirds of welfare recipients are white and white youth commit most of the crime in this country.”
Very aware of the fact that I may be overstepping my bounds in relation to this particular conversation, but it’s been weighing heavily on my mind as I have personally witnessed the dynamics of how trans women of color and gay men of color relate, and it’s disturbing to me.
Gay men of color that I’ve encountered, had close personal relationships with hold trans girls to a ridiculous, impossible, outdated, patriarchal standard of womanhood. The transmisogyny is glaringly obvious, which is even more disturbing because being anywhere on the spectrum of what is deemed to be “deviant” by the cishetero standard, we all tend to share more spaces with one another.
I’d love to delve more into how those with whom we share space more intimately often perpetuate our suffering, a misunderstanding of who we are.
